United States: About 30 students in Ashland, Ohio, were taken to the hospital on Friday after suddenly falling ill from an unknown cause, prompting the evacuation of two schools.
Emergency crews rushed to Mapleton High School around 10:20 am after students at the nearby middle school began reporting headaches, nausea, dizziness, and feeling shaky, according to local outlet WJW.
Both Mapleton Middle and High School were cleared as a precaution while authorities searched for possible hazards. Investigators quickly ruled out a gas leak, but the exact source of the illness remains unclear.
Superintendent Scott Smith said in a letter that evacuating the schools was “out of an abundance of caution” to keep everyone safe.
The 30 affected students were transported to local hospitals, and officials said they are doing well as the investigation continues.
